A Study on Accountable Artificial Intelligence and Digital Dharma: A Moral Framework for Sustainable Marketing
Abstract
The increasing adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in marketing has allowed organizations to improve personalization, predictive accuracy, customer engagement, and operational efficiency. Nevertheless, the growing dependence on AI-driven systems has also brought forth significant ethical issues concerning accountability, transparency, data privacy, algorithmic bias, and sustainability. To address these challenges, this paper introduces Digital Dharma as a moral and philosophical framework intended to steer the development and implementation of Accountable AI in marketing. Digital Dharma, which is based on principles of ethical responsibility, fairness, duty, and societal well-being, provides a normative framework to ensure that AI technologies align with human values and sustainable development objectives. This study conceptually explores how Digital Dharma can facilitate accountability in AI-driven marketing through transparent algorithms, responsible data governance, inclusive design, and human-centric oversight. By incorporating moral accountability into AI systems, marketers can reduce ethical risks, avert exploitative practices, and guarantee fair treatment of consumers. Furthermore, the paper posits that Accountable AI, guided by Digital Dharma, promotes sustainable marketing by building long-term consumer trust, enhancing brand credibility, and fostering responsible consumption. The ethical adoption of AI also aids environmental sustainability by encouraging efficient digital practices and discouraging excessive data exploitation. The fusion of moral philosophy with advanced marketing technologies allows organizations to reconcile innovation, profitability, and social responsibility. In conclusion, the study asserts that Digital Dharma offers a culturally inclusive and ethically sound framework for Accountable AI in marketing. By aligning AI-driven marketing strategies with moral accountability, organizations can attain sustainable marketing results while making a positive contribution to society. This study enriches the growing discourse on ethical AI in marketing, providing a basis for future empirical research.
