Foundational Paradigms in Artificial Intelligence: A Historical-Conceptual Re-evaluation of Early Computational Models
Abstract
The rapidly evolving field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) frequently overlooks its profound historical and philosophical underpin- nings. This paper re-evaluates early computational models and their conceptual frameworks, tracing their intellectual lineage to uncover foundational paradigms that continue to inform modern AI development. We particularly analyze philosophical perspec- tives on "thinking machinery" and the simulation of mental processes, examining how these nascent inquiries contributed to the theoretical architecture of AI systems. By focusing on the conceptual genesis of computational thought, including early algorithmic reasoning and the mathematical precursors to contemporary machine learning techniques like gradient descent, this work offers a novel lens through which to understand the persistent philosophical challenges and emergent capabilities within AI. This historical- conceptual analysis aims to provide a more robust theoretical context for current advancements, bridging the gap between historical intellectual inquiry and the functional design of artificial intelligence.
