Abstract

AN EXPERIMENTAL PROPOSAL FOR TEACHING MCR-ALS. Chemometrics has gained significant importance in higher education and the job market, leading to an increasing number of teaching approaches for various chemometric tools. In this context, the present work aims to contribute to the development and expansion of educational strategies by presenting an experimental proposal for teaching multivariate curve resolution using alternating least squares (MCR-ALS). This proposal is designed for implementation in higher education courses that include chemometric topics in their curricula. Based on ultraviolet and visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometric data collected from a binary solution of colorants, the activity covers essential concepts of chemometrics and MCR-ALS, through a free online platform that performs chemometrics without programming. Furthermore, a pseudo-univariate calibration is also considered. The objective is to promote a deeper understanding of MCR-ALS among students, encouraging both conceptual comprehension and practical application of this chemometric tool and its associated applications. Furthermore, this experimental proposal is intended to support the development of innovative teaching practices in chemometrics within higher education settings.
