Abstract

Introduction: Tooth-Coloured restorative materials are widely used for their aesthetic versatility and advancements in application technology. Surefil One, a self-adhesive bulk-fill resin composite, simplifies dental procedures by reducing clinical steps. It offers good mechanical properties making it efficient and reliable for restorations, especially in pediatric dentistry. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of novel self-adhesive composite hybrid versus conventional composite in restoring carious primary teeth.Methodology: This was a project conducted by two postgraduate students. 40 patients aged 4-7 years received composite restoration for treating carious primary molars using a split-mouth design (80 restorations). Each participant received one of both tested materials. Restorations were evaluated using FDI (World Dental Federation) criteria at baseline, 3, and 6-month intervals. Categorical data were analyzed using Fisher’s exact and Chi-square tests for inter and intragroup comparisons respectively. Results: All evaluated restorations revealed clinically acceptable FDI criteria scores, with no significant differences between (Surefil One) and (Grandio) in most of the FDI criteria throughout the follow-up period. Only regarding aesthetic properties, (Surefil One) (A2) performed significantly inferior to (Grandio) (A2) regarding the Colour match and translucency at all time points (P-value < 0.05).Conclusions: Although both materials showed acceptable clinical performance over 6 months, however, Surefil One exhibited significantly lower, but clinically fully acceptable aesthetic properties compared to Grandio. Surefil One has a short and less sensitive procedure, making it a favorable choice that simplifies restorative procedures in pediatrics.
