Abstract

Background: Rejuvenation of the face includes restoring the aesthetic contour of the neck. Lipodystrophy, platysmal bands, and jowls that extend into the neck are characteristics of the aging neck that detract from the lower face's aesthetic features. The authors outline a novel, straightforward, and cost-effective technique for removing platysmal bands during a routine office procedure under local anesthesia. Aim and objects: The purpose of this study was to present and evaluate a technique for treating patients with isolated mild-to-moderate-degree platysmal bands that were deforming. Subjects and methods: In this case series, 20 patients who had their platysmal bands minimally invasively released were included. Al-Hussien and Sayed Galal Hospitals of Al-Azhar University were the sites of the study. Results: 15 (75%) patients had neck bruises; all of them experienced spontaneous resolution, with a duration ranging from 1.3 to 2.7 weeks, with a mean ± SD of 2.01 ± 0.44 weeks. 3 (15%) patients had edematous cut edge of the band, and all of them disappeared with a duration ranging from 2.6 to 3.4 weeks, with a mean ± SD of 2.9 ± 0.44 weeks. No patient experienced neurovascular damage, and one patient (5%) required two more incisions to a resistive band. At the follow-ups, recurrence didn’t occur in any patient, and no visible scars were observed in any patient. Conclusions: Our research proved that our method—a simple office procedure utilizing a normal 18-gauge syringe needle for cutting—is a safe, dependable, and successful way to treat individuals with mild to moderate platysmal band deformities.
