Abstract

Background: Improving the success rate of intracytoplasmic sperm injection necessitates thorough evaluation of both partners. In order to enhance the implantation rate and significantly improve ICSI results, it is crucial to evaluate the uterine cavity for any abnormalities or pathological lesions.Aim: In order to compare hysteroscopy with 3D-saline infused sonography for uterine cavity abnormality or lesion assessment before ICSI surgery.Patients and methods: Fifty patients undergoing infertility treatments at El-Hussein University Hospital's Obstetrics and Gynecology Department's clinic were the subjects of this prospective interventional comparative study that ran from March 2024 to September 2024.Results: SIS procedures were completed in a mean time of 7.59minutes (range:5.00-11.8 minutes), while hysteroscopy required significantly longer, with a mean duration of 15.32 minutes (range:10.00-21.7minutes). This represents approximately a 50% reduction in procedure time for SIS compared to hysteroscopy, which has important implications for clinical efficiency and resource utilization. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, infertile women undergoing in vitro fertilization (ICSI) can benefit from 3D-saline-infused sonography instead of hysteroscopy for the initial assessment of uterine cavity anomalies. The high diagnostic agreement (84%), significantly reduced pain levels, shorter procedure duration, and favorable safety profile make SIS an excellent screening tool that could potentially reduce the number of patients requiring hysteroscopy.
