Abstract

This study conducted alcoholic celery crude extract influence on Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection by estimate oxidative stress titration, changes in blood profile constitutions along with histopathological changes in lung, liver, spleen, and kidney. 34 white mice age (7-10) weeks divided to (3) groups treated as follows: 1st group (G1) (n=12) Injected 0.5 ml S/C of bacterial suspension containing lX108 CFU/ml viable virulent Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The 2nd group (n=12) was administrated orally alcoholic Apium graveolens extract (concentration of protein 600 mg/kg BW) after (20) days treated as first group. G3 (n=5) control negative group. At 20 days post-inoculation, blood samples were taken before and after inoculation with P. aeruginosa for hematology and oxidative stress level determination with liver, lung, kidney and spleen tissues were taken for histopathological examination. Results of hematology revealed significant enhancement of whole blood profile in celery treated groups, compared with infected group. The same results demonstrated in levels of oxidative stress titrations. The histopathological examinations of infected samples revealed that bacteria severely affected the examined organs, which showed necrotic hepatitis, acute nephritis with vacuolar degeneration, emphysematic pneumonia in the lung and depletion of white pulp with red pulp hemosiderin in spleen. In contrast, celery pre-treated infected groups showed mild to nil pathological lesions.
