Abstract

Abstract: The Schiff base ligand was prepared in two steps. The first step was to prepare compound A from the reaction of 2,3-butanedionemonoxime with benzene-1,2-diamine. The Second step is the reaction of the compound resulting from the first step with Benzil to produce the ligand [(E-2-(((2E,3E)-3-(hydroxyimino)butan-2-) amino) phenyl)imino)-1,2-diphenylethan-1-one] ,The product had a 77% yield and 113°C melting point . The final step is reacting the prepared ligand with elemental chlorides Cu(II), Ag(I) ,Cd(II) and Pd(II). The produced compounds had a 1:1 ratio to the ligand M:L for each complex. The copper complex has an octahedral geometric shape, the Ag(I) complex and the Cd(II) complex have tetrahedral shapes, and the Pd(II) complex has a square planar structure. In order to ascertain the structural characteristics of the ligand and its complexes, various analytical techniques were employed, including FTIR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV-Vis spectra, FESEM, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductivity, C, H, N atomic absorption, melting point, antioxidant test, and anti-cancer test for both the ligand and Ag(I) complex. Research has demonstrated its superior efficacy against leukemia HL-60 and breast cancer cells MCF-7, suggesting its potential as a medicinal agent upon thorough investigation.
