Abstract

Background: Mobile computing has become an essential component of modern nursing practice and education, providing real-time access to clinical information, enhancing communication, and supporting evidence-based decision-making. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) further expands these capabilities by enabling advanced diagnostic assistance, personalized learning, and efficient workflow management. Aim: This paper is presented as a narrative review and educational overview examining the advantages of mobile device use in nursing, including improved documentation, bedside decision support, and enhanced patient education, while also addressing disadvantages such as device-related distractions, technical failures, connectivity dependence, and infection-control concerns. A review of current AI-enabled mobile tools demonstrates their value in clinical practice, from medication identification to secure messaging and portable diagnostics. In addition, the paper outlines key security risks associated with mobile computing, including data breaches, unauthorized access, app vulnerabilities, and threats from unsecured networks, along with strategies for mitigation. Ethical, legal, and professional considerations related to AI use in nursing are also discussed. Emerging mobile innovations further highlight the growing role of technology in shaping safe, effective, and patient-centered care. Conclusion: Overall, successful integration of mobile and AI technologies in nursing requires not only technological competence but also strong cybersecurity awareness and adherence to professional standards to ensure ethical and secure use in healthcare environments.
