Violence and Resistance in Elizabeth Liard’s A Little Piece of Ground (2003)
Abstract
This analysis utilizes Martin Luther King Jr.՝s concepts of violent and non -violent resistance alongside Barbara Harlow՝s theory of resistance literature, concentrating on the internal conflicts and generational tensions on optimal methods of opposing oppression. As Malak՝s resistance manifests subtly via acts of compassion and perseverance, Karim contemplates his inclination towards more overt disobedience. Both stories underscore the notion of sumud ( steadfastness), depicting resilience as a formidable expression of defiance. The research elucidates how Palestinian children sustain agency amidst profound oppression by examining quotidian acts of resistance, such as playing football and nurturing hope. The study asserts that these works substantially enhance Palestinian resistance literature by offering both young readers and adults a deep comprehension of the emotional and political intricacies encountered by children in conflict zones.
