Abstract

The region of South-East Asia faces poverty, illiteracy, lack of employability and population explosion. The economy has also metamorphosed from agriculture to a service economy, to keep pace with the change, and uplift individual self into desired skills, MOOC is the time-appropriate armoury. The present paper analyses how MOOC, being a digital learning tool, can address the issues of employability, the topic of industry and market-oriented skill acclimatisation and making a youth appropriate to time demands. Again, it analyses in what angle MOOC can bring revolution to create equity in the society by stimulating mobility and generating employability skills. Qualitative analysis (Mohamed et al., 2022) is used to analyse the effect of MOOC on employability skills based on secondary data. Introducing MOOC into the Higher Education periphery develops employability competence. However, many employability fields don’t gladly recognise the credentials of MOOC as a substitute for traditional degrees in South-East Asia. Even the success rate of MOOC raises questions about the quality of the programmes. Future endeavours pivot around studying the role of MOOC to develop inherent employability skills to enhance students’ competency levels and make accreditation of MOOC more reliable.
