The study adopted a descriptive correlational design and was applied to a sample of 100 female students from the College of Languages and Human Sciences at Qassim University, whose ages ranged between 18 and 21 years, with a mean age of 19.43 years and a standard deviation of 0.95. The study used a demographic data sheet, a selfie addiction scale, and a social identity scale, and yielded several findings, the most notable of which were that the level of selfie addiction among female students at Qassim University was moderate, and that their selfie addiction could be attributed to several motives: seeking attention and social appreciation, loss of control and compulsive engagement with selfies, social interaction, and documenting life details. The results also showed that there was no correlational relationship between selfie addiction and social identity among the participants. The study recommends designing psychological counseling programs aimed at raising students’ awareness of the risks of excessive use of social media, particularly behaviors related to addictive selfie-taking and its impact on self-concept and social identity, as well as strengthening the role of student counseling centers in universities by providing awareness sessions and preventive counseling interventions targeting female students who are most at risk of digital addictive behaviors. It also recommends integrating concepts of social identity and digital awareness into educational programs and extracurricular activities at universities in a way that contributes to building a well-balanced social identity.
