Abstract
This study aimed to assess the extent to which the music skills curricula in post -basic education (grades eleven and twelve) in the Sultanate of Oman align with the requirements of university education and the labor market. It also sought to identify differences in curriculum alignment based on gender, job role, and years of experience. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing a specially developed questionnaire consisting of two main axes: alignment with university education and alignment with labor market demands. The instrument comprised (38) items distributed across nine dimensions and was administered to a randomly selected sample of (150) participants from a total study population of (187), including music teachers, educational supervisors, and curriculum specialists. The results indicated that the overall alignment with university education was at a moderate level, with a mean score of (3.53). The highest-rated dimension was "theoretical content" (mean = 3.72), while "technology and innovation" was the lowest (mean = 3.08). The alignment with labor market requirements also scored at a moderate level (mean = 3.02), with variations among dimensions such as "practical experience and training" (mean = 3.34) and "basic technical skills" (mean = 2.77). Statistically significant differences were found based on job role, favoring teachers, whereas no significant differences were found in relation to gender or years of experience. The study recommended developing music curricula to enhance the integration of technical and practical components, incorporating units on entrepreneurship and digital marketing, and reinforcing academic preparedness through theoretical content and research skills development.
