Abstract

The concept of the multidisciplinary team is fundamental principles in providing special education services for individuals with intellectual disabilities, due to its importance in achieving integration among various disciplines and meeting diverse needs. This study aims to explore the experiences of teachers of students with intellectual disabilities working within multidisciplinary teams in educational and clinical settings at special education centers. To achieve this aim, a qualitative phenomenological design was employed, using semi-structured interviews as the primary tool for data collection. Data analysis revealed three main themes: the gains of working within a multidisciplinary team, teachers’ emotions throughout the different stages of teamwork, and the enablers of such work from their perspectives. These themes were discussed in depth to uncover the dimensions and meanings of the experience. The study concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of multidisciplinary teamwork and improving its practices within special education settings.
