Abstract

This study addresses the need to understand how biophilic design features relate to employee health, well-being, and productivity in contemporary office environments. The purpose of this research is to explore how biophilic design influences employees’ physical and mental well-being, focus, and work performance within office environments. A survey consisting of 25 questions was administered to 50 employees of Erciyas Holding to assess perceptions of biophilic elements and their impact on health and productivity. The collected data were analyzed in SPSS using reliability analysis, frequency distributions, correlation analysis, and nonparametric methods such as the Mann–Whitney U and Kruskal–Wallis tests. Results revealed that employees demonstrated a high level of awareness regarding biophilic concepts and their associated benefits, indicating clear user sensitivity to natural design features. Among design parameters, natural light and plants were most frequently favored, whereas water-related features were the least preferred. Overall, the findings demonstrate that the findings confirm that biophilic design significantly enhances employee well-being and workplace efficiency, underscoring its relevance in contemporary office environments and its value in creating supportive and engaging workspaces. This study offers a unique contribution by evaluating biophilic design through both spatial analysis and employee perceptions within a Turkish corporate office context, providing practical insights for architects and workplace designers. Findings show that 96% of employees desire more daylight, 84% view the presence of plants positively, and 92% consider natural ventilation important for their well-being.
