Abstract

Recovery from addiction is a complex process that extends beyond medical treatment to include social and behavioral dimensions requiring organized professional intervention. The self-help model stands out as one of the effective methods for empowering recovering individuals to rebuild themselves and enhance their ability to adapt and integrate socially. The importance of intervention using this model lies in its ability to achieve sustainable empowerment for recovering individuals. The study aims to test the effectiveness of professional intervention from a generalist practice perspective in social work using a self-help model to empower those recovering from addiction on psychological, social, economic, and health levels, by activating their role as active partners in managing the recovery and social integration process. The study adopted the quasi-experimental approach as the most suitable for professional interventions, where a program was designed and implemented on a sample of recovering addicts within a rehabilitation center (Al-Azima Center for Addiction Treatment). Pre- and post-testing tools were used to measure the change in empowerment indicators. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in the level of psychological and social empowerment of the participants, an increase in their ability to manage their economic affairs, and an improvement in preventive health practices after the program was implemented. Keywords: Professional intervention- Self-help model - Generalist practice in social work - Empowerment - Recovery from addiction.
