Amlodipine as a nephroprotective agent against contrast-induced nephropathy in diabetic patients in Intensive care unit.
Abstract
Background: Acute kidney injury is a serious complication of intra venous iodinated contrast among intensive care unit patients, reflected by increasing serum creatinine, low urine output, and changes in the kidney ultrasonographic findings, low dose oral amlodipine emerges as a promising candidate for inclusion in modern CIN-prevention strategies, particularly in high-risk population. Methods: This randomized prospective double blinded controlled study, was conducted at ICU of Anesthesia, Intensive care and pain management department. From July 2024 to july 2025 .after obtaining approval of institutional ethical committee of Faculty of Medicine Minia University ( no:1224 /07/2024), Clinicl Trials.gov Identifier (NCT07291375 ) and informed consent of all participants. Fourty participants of both sexes, 18-70 years old of both genders, American society of anesthesiologist physical status II&III, undergoing imaging with IV contrast were included in this study. We excluded, the patient who refused to participate in the study, hypertensive patients, patients with chronic kidney disease, nil per oth patients, patients with contra-indication to hydration Aim of the study To assess the benefit of low dose amlodipine in renal protection from contrast induced nephropathy in diabetic patients and compare it with hydration only .
