Abstract

Background: Nanomaterials have recently emerged and occupied an essential place in prosthodontics by enhancing the functional and aesthetic properties of dental prostheses. Adding nanotechnology in different materials, including ceramics, denture bases, impression materials, tissue conditioning, implants, maxillofacial prostheses, and metals, improved their physical features like strength and durability to endure performance. Nanomaterials also facilitate adherence to dental tissues, reducing the chance of failure and prolonging the life of prosthetic devices. Hygienic advantages are achieved using innovations such as nanohybrid composites and nano-silver particles that are capable of producing antimicrobial effects. The review aimed to study the application of nanomaterials in prosthodontics. For this narrative review, data were collected using the search engines PubMed (Medline), EBSCO, and the Cochrane Library. Other sources included Google Scholar and references of previous systematic reviews. Main Scientific Concepts of Review: Recent advancements in scanning and manufacturing technologies, particularly 3D printing at the nanoscale, have made it possible to design prosthetic solutions that are not only more precise but also tailored to individual needs. This innovation fosters enhanced comfort and satisfaction for patients. In essence, the integration of nanomaterials in prosthodontics opens up exciting new avenues, leading to better performance and innovative options in both removable and fixed prosthodontics. This article provides a concise overview of the most recent breakthroughs and applications of nanomaterials in the field of prosthodontics.
