Abstract

Liquid Flyer Experiment ConfigurationExperiments were performed on the Sandia Z Machine using shock melted Pt samples. The samples then fully released to vacuum and crossed a gap, impacting a secondary window. The released material acted as a secondary flyer, shocking the downrange window.Window materials were chosen with well-known Hugoniots and reflecting shocks at these conditions.Velocimetry and temperature were measured using VISAR, PDV, and Visible/NIR pyrometry.
