Abstract

The integration of cutting-edge technologies, such as biotechnology, blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and renewable energy, has become prevalent in today's rapidly transforming technological landscape, revolutionising several societal, economic, and environmental issues. This chapter examines the moral implications of embracing and advancing these technologies, with a focus on the threats they pose to sustainability. New technologies have enormous potential to address pressing global issues and drive positive transformation. Biotechnology holds potential for breakthroughs in healthcare, agriculture, and environmental protection, while artificial intelligence (AI) offers prospects for enhanced decision-making, automation, and increased efficiency across multiple industries. Furthermore, since blockchain technology facilitates safe and transparent digital transactions, it has the potential to completely transform sectors, including cybersecurity, banking, and supply chain management. However, these revolutionary advantages also present significant ethical concerns and environmental issues. To successfully traverse these complex ethical circumstances, strong ethical frameworks, transparent structures for governance, and collaborative engagement with stakeholders are required.
