Abstract

Abstract. In all welded assemblies, the joining area must meet the mechanical and functional requirements imposed on the assembly. High importance is placed on the hardness profile across the weld cross-section to determine the mechanical properties of the welded assembly. This study highlights the variation in hardness measured along the cross-section of a welded area in TIG- and MIG-welded AlSi7 joints. The results reveal aspects of grain orientation and suggest that the material may crack outside the weld zone.
