Abstract

Early interaction with students has been shown to increase various factors including retention, however much of the research has focused on online contact at key points in the student study journey (Latif & Townshend, 2023). Anecdotal information also suggests that students who meet with their tutor early in their study journey feel more confident in approaching them should they encounter an issue that affects their studies. However, Humphreys and Johnson (2021; 2019) have identified variation in the type and quality of tutor-student early interaction, suggesting that more research is needed into different types of interaction.
