Abstract

Background and Objective: Considering the educational challenges faced by students with special learning disabilities and the influence of environmental and local factors on the learning conditions, designing a flexible and context-based curriculum seems essential. An event-based curriculum, emphasizing natural, situation-based, and real-life experiences, can provide meaningful learning opportunities for this group of students. The aim of this study is to design and validate the desired model of an event-based curriculum for first-year elementary school students with special learning disabilities living in the Urmia Lake basin area. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with the participation of 300 educators working in comprehensive centers, teachers working in the elementary field, specialists in curriculum planning, philosophy of education and educational psychology in 2025. The sampling was stratified random. The data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire on the curriculum for students with special learning disabilities and analyzed using Smart PLS-3 software and exploratory factor analysis tests and structural equations. Results: The desired model of the curriculum for students with specific learning disabilities was identified in the form of 9 main dimensions, including: learning objectives, flexibility, resources and technology, educational content, teaching-learning strategies, teacher, social-emotional learning, practice and repetition, and evaluation. The validation of the components with the overall fit index (GOF = 0.63) indicates a strong fit of this model. The components of educational content, teacher, resources and technology, flexibility, and evaluation obtained the highest validity. Conclusion: The study showed that the designed model of the developmental curriculum has good scientific credibility and can be used as an innovative framework in curriculum planning for students with specific learning disabilities in elementary school.
