How effectively do the plays ‘A Taste of Honey’ and ‘Mrs Warren’s Profession’ capture thediversity of human life?
Abstract
This essay will explore how effectively both texts capture the diversity of human life by examining how both texts can be read as ‘queer’ plays, as regardless of whether they include a definitively queer character, they both ‘cleave, fracture, and re-mold conventional identity models’ (See 33) by depicting non-conventional non-nuclear family units, and non-conventional female protagonists (Jo in ‘A Taste of Honey’ and Vivie Warren in ‘Mrs Warren’s Profession). This essay will also analyse each woman’s relationship with her mother to further demonstrate the diverse divide between conventional and non-conventional.
