Abstract

Phytopathogens compromise global food production systems. This challenge necessitates disease diagnostic tools that are accurate, scalable, and capable of real-time detection of pathogens. The review describes the genomic architecture of diverse plant pathogens and examines the integration of digital intelligence in integrated disease management (IDM) strategies. Deep learning models have proven highly efficient in detecting foliar and systemic infections across diverse crops. Disease progression in plants is characterized by mechanical penetration and biochemical interactions of pathogens with host, including toxin production and suppression of host immune responses. Fungi generate internal pressure to overcome host cuticle defenses and initiate infection. Viruses exploit the host cellular machinery, whereas bacteria release effector proteins to suppress plant immune responses. Modern crop protection systems must adapt to the rapid evolution of highly aggressive pathogen strains. Notable examples of these strains are Ug99 stem rust and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense tropical race 4 (Foc TR4). In this context, emerging mutations in pathogens can now be detected using deep neural networks and artificial intelligence. This advancement improves the efficiency of early disease detection and monitoring. Modern biotechnological approaches utilize CRISPR/Cas9 technology for engineering precise resistance in the plants. Integrated Disease Management (IDM) now combines biological control, cultural practices, and artificial intelligence to establish durable defenses against diverse pathogens. The integration of molecular biology and computational algorithms is influencing crop protection through early detection, predictive modeling, and resistance development. Keywords: Pathogenesis, deep learning, genomic architecture, CRISPR/Cas9, integrated disease management, rheology.
