Abstract

This article analyzes the discursive function and transformation of the mañaneras during the transition from Andrés Manuel López Obrador to Claudia Sheinbaum in Mexico, between April 2024 and March 2025. The aim is to examine how the mañaneras shape political communication strategies and influence the construction of public opinion. The study is based on a limited yet relevant corpus composed of the titles of the presidential conferences published on the official YouTube channels. Using a theoretical and methodological framework that combines social semiotics, ethnography of communication, and discourse analysis, the study describes the predominant discursive features of the titles and compares the speech acts and discursive actions constructed in each presidency. The findings show that, in a context marked by persistent opposition attacks, López Obrador ensured the continuity of his leadership. At the same time, despite challenges such as the announced reform of the Judiciary, the fight against violence, and constant threats from Donald Trump, the new president has prioritized sovereignty, modernization, inclusion, and the expansion of rights for women and Indigenous peoples. The article concludes that the mañaneras function as multimodal discourses that shape the public agenda and governmental legitimacy.
