History taking and examination
Abstract
Guinea pigs are naturally nervous animals and instinctively act on the flight response. This means that adequate restraint and suitable transportation are important both en route to and inside the veterinary practice. Their prey instincts mean that, in many cases, clinical signs of illness are hidden or not noticed until the animal is very unwell. Detailed history taking and systematic examination are therefore vital for making a diagnosis and appropriate treatment decisions.
