Optimal Non-singular Fast Terminal Sliding Mode based Super Twisting Algorithm for Switched Reluctance Motor Speed Control
Abstract
Switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives suffer from high torque ripple and degraded tracking performance under load disturbances and rapid speed variations. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an optimized Non-Singular Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Control integrated with a Super-Twisting Algorithm and tuned using the Multi-Objective Dragonfly Algorithm (NFTSMCBSTA-MODA).The super-twisting layer reduces the chattering inherent in NFTSMC, while MODA simultaneously optimizes the controller gains to enhance transient and steadystate performance. The proposed controller is implemented and validated in MATLAB/Simulink under constant load torque, speed variation, and load torque variation scenarios.Comparative results with classical NFTSMC and nonoptimized NFTSMCBSTA demonstrate substantial improvements, achieving up to an 88% reduction in torque ripple, an 84% improvement in steady-state speed error, and an 87.5% reduction in settling time, along with smoother control signals. The proposed controller shows promising improvements under the tested conditions for SRM applications.
