Metacercaria pathogenicity in freshwater fish Channa gachua
Abstract
Clinostomum metacercariae are endemic zoonotic infections in freshwater fish responsible for yellow grub disease caused by the consumption of raw infected fish. This study aimed to investigate histopathological alterations to advance our understanding of C. complanatum infection. In this study, 30 freshwater fish Channa gachua were collected from the Kaygaon Toka River. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Microscopic encysted metacercariae were collected from the buccal cavities and gills. Morphological analysis revealed distinct features of the Clinostomum metacercariae. Histopathology revealed associated lesions, such as cyst encapsulation and eosinophilic infiltration. Clonorchiasis and its impact on fish hosts offer crucial insights into controlling this emerging fish-borne zoonotic disease, which threatens wildlife, aquaculture, and human health.
