Abstract

Nowadays, the demand for innovative clothing in everyday life is increasing over time, where textile design plays an important role. The primary element of textile design is considered as the source of inspiration and textile designers are constantly looking for its novelty. Based on a very limited research works available in record, this review article primarily focuses on the innovative approach to develop textile design through the application of musical notations. This paper reviews the existing studies on how music has been used in textile design by aesthetically and systematically transforming its melody, rhythm, harmony, emotion, and notation into patterns, colours, and textures. The main aim of reviewing the existing studies and practical applications is to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of textile design through music, which will guide a new conceptual direction in textile design research in the future.
