Abstract

Adolescence is a critical developmental period characterized by rapid physical, psychological, and social changes. Unhealthy health behaviours such as poor dietary practices, inadequate physical activity, disturbed sleep patterns, and excessive screen time have emerged as major public health concerns influencing mental health among young populations. The present study examines the interaction between health behaviours and mental health status among children and adolescents in Bhopal city, Madhya Pradesh. A cross-sectional research design was employed, and data were collected from 200 school-going children and adolescents aged 10–18 years using a structured health behaviour questionnaire and standardized mental health scales. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed significant associations between positive health behaviours and improved mental health outcomes. Adequate sleep and regular physical activity emerged as the strongest predictors of lower stress and anxiety levels. The study highlights the importance of integrated school- and community-based interventions to promote holistic well-being among children and adolescents.
