Ziro valley wine tourism: Emerging trends and community benefits
Abstract
Wine tourism, which involves visiting vineyards, wineries, and wine-producing regions to learn about winemaking, tasting wines, and purchasing local products, has emerged as a tool for promoting economic growth and sustainable rural development. This study examines the role of wine tourism in enhancing the livelihoods of the local community in Ziro Valley, Arunachal Pradesh. A qualitative research methodology was adopted, using case studies, interviews with local stakeholders, and field observations to understand the economic impact, challenges, and strategies adopted by the community. The major findings reveal that collaboration between winemakers, local authorities, and community members generates employment opportunities, strengthens local businesses, and fosters economic sustainability. Community involvement in sustainable tourism practices also helps preserve the environment and maintain the cultural identity of the valley. Moreover, the development of proper marketing strategies has been found to attract more tourists and support the growth of the tourism sector. The outcome of the study highlights that wine tourism can serve as a catalyst for community-based tourism by providing a roadmap for sustainable development, economic empowerment, and environmental conservation. The research provides valuable insights for policymakers, tourism planners, and local entrepreneurs on leveraging wine tourism to improve the quality of life of rural communities while promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism in Ziro Valley.
