A review on quality of work-life and job satisfaction among gig workers: A TCCM approach
Abstract
The gig economy continues to become popular in the current era. The economy is characterized by contractual work, freelance and partnerships between employees and employers. The impacts of the gig economy are far-reaching. This paper aims to conduct a systematic review of the existing literature to get a deeper knowledge of the gig economy. The purpose of this study was to explore the impacts of the gig economy on employees’ quality of work-life and job satisfaction using TCCM framework. The study involved a review of the studies covering the impact of the gig economy on the work-life and satisfaction among employees. The findings indicate that most studies were conducted in the USA, with a few covering African regions. In terms of characterization, work-life and job satisfaction were measured in the ability to manage one’s own time, spill-over effects, leadership experiences, and task accomplishment. Also, most studies used the psychological contract theory and focused on the taxi industry. The limitation of this study is that the review was based on the studies published in the last ten years and the English language. Therefore, the findings are limited to a short time frame and demographic coverage. This paper adds to the academic field, and the originality in this study helps to understand the comparative study of the topic and various methodologies used. Finally, this paper will help to pave a research agenda for all future research in this domain.
