Coconut oil processing units playing an important segment of agricultural-based industries and contribute significantly to rural employment, income generation, and value addition in coconut-producing regions. Karnataka is one of the leading coconut-producing states in India, with a growing number of coconut oil processing units operating at small and medium scales. The present study undertakes a cost-benefit analysis of coconut oil processing units in Karnataka to evaluate their socio-economic performance and profitability. The study is based on both primary data collected from selected processing units and secondary data obtained from official reports, publications, and industry sources. The results reveal that coconut oil processing units are economically viable and generate satisfactory returns on investment. However, the study also highlights challenges such as price fluctuations of raw coconut, rising operational costs, and marketing constraints. The findings offer valuable insights for entrepreneurs, policymakers, and financial institutions to promote sustainable development of coconut-based industries in Karnataka.
