Abstract

Background: Thalassemia is a chronic genetic blood disorder requiring lifelong treatment, which places a significant psychological burden on pediatric patients. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 168 children (112 Beta-Thalassemia Major; 56 E-Beta Thalassemia) at a tertiary care hospital. Psychological distress was assessed using standardized scales (e.g., PSC-17 or SDQ). Results: High prevalence of internalizing behaviors and anxiety was noted, with significant correlation between transfusion frequency and emotional distress. Conclusion: Routine psychiatric screening should be integrated into hematological care.
