Abstract

This study focuses on the construction and standardization of a Child Anxiety Scale designed to assess anxiety among children aged 4 to 14 years in the Indian context. Anxiety in children is a multidimensional construct influenced by psychological, environmental, and social factors, with potential long-term effects on emotional and academic development. The scale consists of 32 items measured on a three-point response format (Always, Sometimes, Never). A sample of 800 children from schools in Jodhpur was selected using purposive sampling. Item analysis confirmed statistical significance, and the tool demonstrated acceptable reliability (test–retest correlation ranging from 0.526 to 0.762) and validity through comparison with established measures. The scale provides a practical and culturally relevant tool for early identification of anxiety, enabling timely intervention to improve children’s psychological well-being and academic performance.
