Abstract

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is an essential compound for the normal functioning of the nervous system and cellular metabolism. In this study, the chemical structure of vitamin B12 was investigated by FTIR spectroscopy, with the aim of identifying the characteristic functional groups and assessing the purity of the sample. The FTIR spectrum revealed specific bands corresponding to the amine (-NH?), cyanide (-CN) and amide (C=O) groups, indicating the structural integrity of vitamin B12. The analysis demonstrated that FTIR is a rapid and non-destructive method, useful for the qualitative characterization of vitamin B12 and for the quality control of pharmaceutical products or dietary supplements containing this compound.
