Abstract
Blood is essential tissue and its maintenance is necessary for overall health. Ayurvedic classics emphasize its importance while also mentioning specific medicine to stabilize blood named Shonitasthapanadi Mahakashaya. It consists of ten medications in the list ~ namely Madhu, Madhuka, Rudhir, Mocharasa, Mrutkapala, Lodhra, Gairika, Priyangu, Sarkara, Laja. This group has potential to address blood related disorders and maintain its normalcy. This article aims to identify all possible botanical source of the medications listed in this category. To suggest their likely mechanisms of action by combining Ayurvedic principles with concepts of blood stabilization. It also includes the current available formulations in the market and IUCN status of listed ingredients. The analysis reveals multiple botanical sources of drugs enlisted in this group to stabilize blood. Three primary processes may categorize their therapeutic role, Blood purification (Rakta-sodhana), Haematinic activity (Rakta-vardhana) and Haemostasis (Rakta-stambhana). Furthermore, no formulation currently includes all ten of the medications of this Mahakashaya, despite what Charaka claimed that these can be used singly or in combination for maximum effect. It is an Ayurvedic concept of blood stability through a variety of processes. Future suggestions include creating formulations that incorporate all 10 of these medications and to confirm their safety and effectiveness.
