Abstract

The Greater Death’s-head Hawkmoth, Acherontia lachesis (Fabricius, 1798) (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae), is a widespread species across India and Southeast Asia, yet its confirmed presence within community-protected montane forests of Meghalaya has remained undocumented. This study records two adult individuals from Mawphlang Sacred Grove, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, India, observed on 28 August and 4 September 2025 at elevations between 1, 750 and 1, 860 m above sea level. This observation provides a confirmed occurrence of the species from the Mawphlang Sacred Grove, contributing to regional faunal documentation in the Khasi Hills.
