Abstract

The entomological fauna of the Kota division, located in the south-eastern plateau of Rajasthan, remains under-documented compared to the Aravali range. This paper reports the first formal observation and recording of cicadas (Family: Cicadidae) in the region. It is widely distributed in riverine, forest and urban areas of Kota and Jhalawar city. Specimens identified belong primarily to the genera Platypleura. Two species are identified from these districts with their specific distribution and abundance. These findings extend the known distribution of these acoustic insects into the semi-arid zones of Hadoti, providing baseline data for future ecological monitoring.
