Abstract

Kabaddi is a traditional Indian sport that demands high levels of physical fitness, particularly cardio-respiratory endurance, strength, and agility. With the growing professionalization and competitive nature of the game, scientifically designed training methods have become essential for enhancing player performance. The present study aimed to examine the impact of varied training methods on selected physiological variables among men Kabaddi players. Forty-five male Kabaddi players from Anna University Engineering Colleges were selected as subjects and randomly assigned into three groups, with fifteen players in each group. Experimental Group I underwent aerobic training, Experimental Group II participated in resistance training, and Control Group III followed their regular routine without any specialized training. The training programs were administered for a period of twelve weeks. Cardio-respiratory endurance was selected as the dependent variable and was assessed before and after the training intervention. The collected data were statistically analyzed using dependent t-tests and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Whenever significant F values were obtained, Scheffé’s post-hoc test was applied to identify specific group differences. The level of significance was set at 0.05. The results revealed that both aerobic training and resistance training groups showed significant improvement in cardio-respiratory endurance compared to the control group, which did not exhibit any significant changes. The study concludes that aerobic and resistance training methods are effective in enhancing cardio-respiratory endurance among men Kabaddi players.
