Abstract

Morphology, a fundamental branch of biology, deals with the study of the form, structure, and structural features of organisms, encompassing both external and internal characteristics. In the field of sports science, morphological characteristics play a crucial role in determining athletic performance, as body structure and composition significantly influence motor abilities and efficiency in various sports disciplines. Athletic events, particularly throwing events, demand specific morphological attributes to achieve optimal performance. The present study aimed to examine the association between throwing performance and selected morphological parameters among state-level shot put throwers. The subjects for this investigation were Under-17 male shot put athletes representing Bangalore, Tumkur, Kolar, and Davangere districts of Karnataka during the 2025-26 competitive season. The age of the participants ranged from 14 to 17 years. Shot put performance was evaluated through three trials, with the best attempt recorded as the performance score. Selected morphological variables were measured using standardized testing procedures under uniform conditions. Data collection was conducted during the Under-17 State Level Athletic Meet, followed by morphological assessments carried out in a controlled environment. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation, to assess normality. Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient was employed to determine the relationship between morphological variables and throwing performance, with interpretations made using Guilford’s table. The findings of the study are expected to provide valuable insights into the role of morphological characteristics in throwing performance, thereby aiding in talent identification, selection, and training program development for young athletes.
