Assessing the role of integrated yoga practices in reducing stress in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
Abstract
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder among women of reproductive age, often associated with psychological stress, anxiety, and reduced quality of life. The present study aimed to assess the role of an integrated yoga program in reducing stress levels among women diagnosed with PCOS. Sixty women aged 35 - 45 years were randomly from Sivagangai district, Tamil Nadu, INDIA. Assigned into three groups: Group I (Integrated Yoga, IY), Group II (Conventional Yoga, CY), and Group III (Control, no intervention), with 20 participants in each group. The intervention lasted for 12 weeks, and stress levels were measured using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) at pre- and post-test. Statistical analysis using ANOVA revealed a significant reduction in stress in both yoga groups, with the integrated yoga group showing the greatest improvement. The findings suggest that structured yoga interventions can be an effective non-pharmacological strategy for stress management in women with PCOS.
