Effect of yoga on stress, sleep, and mental health in working adults
Abstract
This study examines the effect of yoga on stress, sleep quality, and mental health among working adults. The main aim was to understand how regular yoga practice supports daily well-being and emotional balance. A cross-sectional quantitative survey method was used to collect data from 180 working adults, including 111 males and 69 females. A structured 15-item questionnaire based on a 5-point Likert scale was used to measure stress reduction, sleep quality, and mental health. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, regression, ANOVA, and reliability testing through SPSS. The results showed a positive effect of yoga practice on all three areas. The regression analysis showed that yoga explained 24.2% of the change in stress levels (R² = 0.242, p = 0.007), 30.0% of the change in sleep quality (R² = 0.300, p = 0.005), and 20.3% of the change in mental health (R² = 0.203, p = 0.003). The overall reliability of the questionnaire was strong, with a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.765. The findings confirm that regular yoga practice helps reduce stress, improve sleep quality, and support better mental health among working adults. The study suggests that yoga can be used as a simple, low-cost, and effective daily practice to improve physical and mental well-being.
