Abstract

This perspective report explores the current knowledge and practices of injury prevention among athletes, athletic trainers (ATs), and sports physiotherapists (SPs), with a primary focus on the Jordanian sports context. ATs and SPs play essential roles in injury prevention, performance maintenance, and rehabilitation, yet gaps remain in knowledge, role clarity, and consistent implementation of preventive strategies within evolving sports systems. Drawing on the author’s practical experience working in Jordan and informed by exposure to structured injury prevention models during an international fellowship experience in Japan, this article builds a case for the need to critically examine injury prevention knowledge and practices at the athlete and practitioner level. The perspective emphasizes athletes’ understanding of injury risks, prevention strategies, and self-management, alongside the roles of ATs and SPs in delivering and coordinating preventive care. A conceptual framework and proposed research direction are presented to guide future pilot studies and graduate-level research. The aim is to identify existing gaps, support evidence-informed injury prevention practices, and contribute to improving athlete care and safety within the Jordanian sports environment.
