Effect of circuit training and plyometric training on speed endurance and explosive power among basketball players
Abstract
Basketball also emphasizes teamwork, coordination, speed, agility, and endurance. Regular participation contributes to overall physical development, cardiovascular fitness, and psychological well-being. With its dynamic nature and global popularity, basketball is widely included in school, collegiate, and professional sports programs, making it an important sport for physical education and competitive athletics. The study examined the effect of circuit training and plyometric training on speed endurance and explosive power among basketball players. For this research, 45 men basketball players from Alagappa University-affiliated colleges, Sivagangai, Tamil Nadu, aged between 17 and 25 years. The subjects were divided into 3 equal clusters, namely cluster A as circuit training, cluster B as plyometric training and cluster C as the control cluster do their routine practice, but not specific training. The training protocol was 12 weeks. The speed endurance was measured by a 300 mts run and explosive power was measured by vertical jump. 12 weeks before and after the intervention, data were collected and statistically analysed by anacova. Whenever significant F values were obtained, Scheffé’s post-hoc test was applied to identify specific group differences. The level of significance was set at 0.05. Thus, incorporating circuit and plyometric training into regular exertion programs is explosively recommended for basketball players to achieve advanced levels of speed endurance and explosive power.
