Comparative analysis of achievement motivation in mallakhamb players across competitive levels
Abstract
This study examines the differences in achievement motivation among Mallakhamb players across three competitive levels: Senior, Junior, and Sub-Junior. Achievement motivation plays a crucial role in determining an athlete’s persistence, performance consistency, and competitive success, particularly in a physically demanding and skill-intensive traditional sport like Mallakhamb. The primary objective of the study was to compare the mean scores of achievement motivation among players from different competitive categories and to identify potential variations associated with experience and level of participation. A total of players representing the three levels were assessed using a standardized achievement motivation scale. Descriptive statistics and comparative analysis were employed to evaluate differences in mean scores. The findings indicated that Senior players demonstrated the highest level of achievement motivation, followed by Junior and Sub-Junior players. The results suggest that increased exposure to competition, training intensity, and performance expectations at higher levels may contribute to enhanced motivational orientation. The study highlights the importance of psychological training and motivational strategies in athlete development programs, particularly for emerging players transitioning to higher competitive levels.
