Trend-based performance forecasting of male NCC basketball trainees using camp assessment data
Abstract
Background: Physical fitness is a key determinant of basketball performance, particularly during preparatory training camps where athletes undergo structured conditioning before competition. Understanding performance trends can assist in estimating competitive readiness. Objective: The present study aimed to analyse overall physical fitness trends among male NCC basketball trainees and apply a trend-based forecasting approach to estimate potential competitive performance. Method: A descriptive camp-based assessment was conducted on twenty (N = 20) male national-level NCC trainees aged 18-25 years. Performance variables included Standing Broad Jump, Shuttle Run, 50 m sprint, sit-ups, and 600 m run. Mean values were calculated, and state-wise performance trends were examined. Composite fitness patterns were interpreted to project readiness levels. Results: States such as Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka demonstrated comparatively superior explosive power and sprint efficiency. Balanced performance across power, speed, agility, and endurance variables was associated with stronger projected competitive readiness. Conclusion: Trend-based analysis of camp assessment data provides a practical framework for forecasting performance potential. Trainees with higher composite physical fitness profiles may have a greater probability of successful competitive outcomes, including medal achievement.
