Skill development through home science: a gateway to women’s economic and social empowerment

Empowering women in a nation is a necessity for attaining sustainable development and inclusive economic growth. The woman in India were restricted to household duties and had an interesting transformation in becoming independent, supporting their family as well as society and the economy. The various expert areas of home science have paved the way for the multidisciplinary profession with theoretical and practical knowledge. Their skills and abilities have been polished by the government initiatives offering opportunities for self-employment and entrepreneurship. The paper deals with how increasing women exposure to various e- platforms has expedited this transition inspite of many obstacles. However, home science skills act as catalysts for women's economic independence and empowerment when paired with government initiatives.
