Abstract

The physicochemical properties of water samples collected from the River Mandakini at various places in Chitrakoot District were analyzed. The following parameters were investigated: pH, alkalinity, chloride, total hardness, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, sulphate, and phosphorus. The Mandakini River begins in the village of Kelhaura in Madhya Pradesh's Majhgawan block, Satna district, at latitude 24⁰52'N and longitude 80⁰ 41'E. The results were compared to WHO standards (1984). The highest values were 301.96 mg/l for Sati Anusiya Sulphate at Site 1, 680 mg/l for Mahkam Gargh at Alkalinity, and 5.5 mg/l for DO. Sphatik shila site 3 at Alkalinity 680 mg/l, hardness 468 and chloride 92.18 mg/l. Arogya dham site 4 phosphate 1.48 mg/l. Janki kund sulphate 301.96 mg/l. Ram ghat pH 8.17 mg/l and BOD is 5.6 mg/l. The lowest value sati anusiya pH was 7.02 mg/l and DO 2.4 mg/l. Mahkam gargh 240 mg/l hardness BOD 1.1 mg/l. Goenika Ghat was alkalinity 572 mg/l chloride 14.18 mg/l and Sulphate 33.78 mg/l.It is determined that although the river's water is not extremely contaminated, there is evidence of rising pollution as a result of human activity. To prevent anthropogenic pollution, appropriate monitoring is required.
